The guest house is located in Wa, the regional center of the Upper West Region of Ghana (see map below). It is approximately 2 km south from the city center and is located in a quiet environment near the campus of the Wa Secondary School.
Wa is embedded between the Mole National Park and the Black Volta River at the border to Burkina Faso.
The Upper West Region is generally a solitary area with clean air, low population density, a few cars, but with lots of nature. Only since 2009, the region has been linked with a paved road to the south of Ghana. Perhaps because of the expandable road network to other regions, the poorest part of the Ghana is still the Upper West Region. About 80% of the population live below the poverty line. Yet an atmosphere of departure can be felt:
Wa benefits from its strategic location on the shortest route between the industrial and cultural center of Burkina Faso, Bobo Dioulasso (Bobo, one of the the most charming cities in West Africa) - and the seaports of Tema (near Accra) and Takoradi in southern Ghana. The route to Bobo will soon be paved completely (currently there is still a strech of good, dirt road of about 60km). Simultaneously, the region is benefitting from the stability of Ghana's democracy and in comparison to other countries in Africa and America from its good security situation.
Wa is also (in addition to Tamale) the best starting point for a visit of the rough diamond of Ghanas nature and wildlife reserves, the Mole National Park. Two more nature reserves within 100km from Wa are inviting you for expedition tours of several days duration: The Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary (60km Wa) and the Gbele Game Reserve (100km).
